All work involving the addition of a new electrical circuit to a dwelling, or electrical work in kitchens, bathrooms and other ‘special’ locations (see Table 2) will need to be either notified to Building Control or carried out by a ‘competent person’, registered with a ‘Part P Self- Certifying Scheme’.
Anyone wishing to carry out controlled electrical work has two options to ensure they comply with the Building Regulations .
1) Use an electrician/installer who is registered with a ‘Competent Person’s Scheme’ in which case no Building Regulation application will be required for the work.
2) Submit a Building Regulation application to the Council (A Building Notice is the most appropriate form of application where the work is only for controlled electrical installations)
